Wait just a minute!
Unless cleaning fairies 🧚 arrive overnight at your house on the regular, you’re going to need to clean your bong.
If it’s been a long time, you may be pretending you don’t even notice that you are smoking from a nasty bong, complete with brown water, and black soot.
But I don’t know how to properly clean a bong!
No problem, because we know how, and it’s really not difficult to keep your bong sparkly clean.
Once you get in the habit, your bong will thank you by giving you clean hit after hit, providing you with a long life full of happy smoke sesh memories and a calm mind.
Let's Start Cleaning this Bong!

No matter what method you plan on using to clean your bong, the first step is to disassemble the glass bong.
Remove the bowl and slide and put them aside. Dump out the dirty bong water and rinse the chamber with clean water .
When putting water in the bong to clean it, fill it from the top and dump the water from the slide opening. This keeps the dirty water from leaving a gross water residue on the lip of the mouthpiece.
If your bong is on the short side, you can fill it directly from any sink faucet. If it stands taller, try using a measuring cup or something with a spout so you avoid water splashes and spills.
The Denture Tablet Method

Denture cleaning tablets can provide a great effervescent cleanse for your bong.
They are inexpensive and can be found at any grocery store or pharmacy.
Step 1: Depending on the size of your bong, put one to three tablets in the chamber and fill it with hot water.
Step 2: Let it sit for 15-30 minutes, depending on the size of the bong and how dirty it got.
Step 3: Empty the fizzy water mixture and rinse the bong thoroughly with hot water.
This is what we do:
Depending on the size of your glass bong, sometimes you can drop the tablets in, add the water, then seal it off with saran-wrap and a rubber band to trap the cleaning tablet in the muckiest part of the bong.
Watch it fizz away the soot and then smile as it does the work for you.
The Salt and Alcohol Method

This is a simple cleaning technique using two ingredients everyone should have on hand.
Step 1: Put three or more tablespoons of salt in the bong by dropping them through the mouthpiece.
Step 2: Add a 1/4 cup of isopropyl rubbing alcohol. Cover the shaft hole and mouthpiece hole, and shake the glass piece for a few minutes.
Step 3: Pour out the salty, mucky, mixture and rinse the bong with warm water until it’s free of any salt residue.
The Vinegar and Baking Soda Method

Step 1: Fill the bong with vinegar and then add a few teaspoons of baking soda.
Step 2: Cover the bong holes with saran-wrap or your fingers, while you shake the bong for a few minutes to loosen up and agitate the cleaning mixture.
Side note: The bong should be clean once the vinegar has turned a brownish color.
Step 3: Empty the glass bong and rinse repeatedly with warm water, until it’s completely cleansed of any vinegar and baking soda bits.
The Water and Lemon Method

Step 1: Get a pot of water boiling, enough to fill your bong twice.
Step 2: Depending on the size of your bong, add 1/4 to 1 cup of lemon juice.
Step 3: Pour the water into the bong, cover all the holes, and shake it thoroughly to agitate the bong.
Step 4: Let it sit for five minutes, then empty the lemon water solution and rinse the bong with any leftover hot water, then flush with warm water.
Cleaning the Small Parts of the Bong
While your bong sits filled with whatever cleaning agents you are using, you can use this time to clean the small parts.
Step 1: Place the bowl and slide inside separate containers, such as a Ziplock baggie or Tupperware (do not put the parts together or risk breakage).
Step 2: Soak them in whatever cleaning solution you chose for the bong, then shake the container several times. Let them sit for 5-10 minutes.
Step 3: Remove the parts from their containers and examine them for any leftover residue. Remove any leftover residue with pipe cleaners, cotton swabs, or a narrow bottle brush.
side note: you'll wind up throwing away whatever you use to poke out the residue, so don't use something you are attached to!
Step 4: Rinse the parts well with hot water and dry thoroughly.
Final Thoughts

Once you finish cleaning all your bong parts, dry them using paper towels or a towel, then reassemble the bong. You are now ready to enjoy the fruits of your labor. 😁
If you wonder about using dish soap and similar products to clean your bong, we advise against it.
These can leave a nasty film or residue that will negatively affect how your hits taste, and frankly it just doesn't work.
As for choosing which of our recommended methods to use, it really is a matter of preference. They all work pretty much equally well, so choose based on which one you like the most or which ingredients you have on hand.
